Henry Parkes is our next Aussie Notable in preparation ... BUT!
When involved in a project like this, you notice things. We are in the habit of looking more closely at bank notes than most people, which is why we noticed that Henry and Catherine seemed to be turning up less often. Enquiries at the Reserve Bank confirms that this note - the Federation $5 note - is being withdrawn. It was printed in 1901 for the centenary of Federation and was planned to have a short time span. So, if you see one, hang on to it!
Meantime QE II and Parliament House, first issued 1992, will carry on. Do you remember the controversy when Her Majesty took the place of Caroline Chisholm?
Nevertheless, we shall continue with Henry. But, since he and Catherine and no longer active among us, there may be elements of a Black Armband view of history in the production!
